Saint Joseph Sound - Pinellas, FL Fishing Report on 14th Jul, 2026

The summer heat has officially settled into Pinellas County this July, but the fishing off the Florida Gulf Coast remains incredibly productive. With the warmer water temperatures, our strategy on recent Clearwater fishing charters has been to get off the dock early, capitalize on the morning bite, and take advantage of the moving tides.

Inshore Fishing: Snook and Redfish Right now, the inshore fishing in Clearwater is highly focused on snook. We are finding solid numbers of them stacked up around the passes and cruising the troughs right off the beaches. Live pilchards have been the absolute bait of choice. We are seeing some quality fish being brought to the Yellowfin, especially during the first few hours of our morning half-day trips.

Redfish are also cooperating nicely, holding tight to the mangrove shorelines during the incoming higher tides. Pitching live bait precisely under the overhangs has produced consistent, heavy-hitting hookups for our guests.

Nearshore Reefs: Snapper and Sharks For our anglers heading a bit further out on our 6-hour trips, the nearshore reefs are yielding excellent numbers of mangrove snapper. They are providing constant rod-bending activity, which is perfect for keeping everyone engaged on our family fishing trips. We are dropping down light tackle with live bait and getting immediate results.

We have also run into some large seasonal sharks patrolling the nearshore waters. If you are looking to test your strength on some heavier tackle, targeting these summer sharks provides a serious fight.

Captain’s Advice for Summer Fishing My biggest piece of advice for booking a summer fishing charter near Clearwater Beach is to opt for our 7:30 AM start time. Beating the mid-day heat keeps both the anglers and the fish much more comfortable, and the bite is almost always better before the sun is sitting high overhead. Also, make sure to bring your polarized sunglasses—they are essential for spotting fish moving across the flats from the sight-fishing tower.
